Welcome...
We are pleased that you dropped in. We
are committed to the community. Please feel free to message us with your thoughts.
We are a Club of people
Our club was established in 1983 and is now a registered NON-PROFIT organization. Our purpose is to promote the exchange of information among computer users for the benefit of everyone in the community and surrounding areas. Supported by memberships, donations and gifts, we organize monthly educational meetings, and have guest speakers. We sponsor other special events, all encouraging the learning and sharing of computer information. Our community involvement is well established. All of our activities are geared toward increasing computer awareness in our community.
Our involvement is well established
Our commitment to the community was established from our very beginning in 1983. Our experience and knowledge of computers has been utilized by many local organizations. Community groups such as the Renfrew LIONS CLUB, Kiwanis, Upper Ottawa Valley Crime Stoppers, Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic, Renfrew Public Library, Police Services of Renfrew, Community Police Office, Victoria Youth Centre, Kinsmen of Renfrew, Renfrew Food Bank, Kid's Corps of Renfrew, Renfrew And Area Resouce Centre, Renfrew And District Volunteer Centre, Industry Canada, Community Resource Center of Renfrew County and the Corporation of the Town of Renfrew have used the Renfrew Computer Club to help increase the effectiveness of their own community projects. Our membership is broad ranged and open to all, young or old, novice or expert.
We made our Club reach out
The establishment of a locally accessible INTERNET service was well received. Community groups are now joining us to provide inexpensive and efficient communications for their members locally and internationally. In the beginning we were pleased to support the projects of other Renfrew Clubs. Through utilizing our services and becoming active members, these local organizations have acknowledge the value of the Renfrew Computer Club within the community.
Our Expansion Continues
The Renfrew Computer Club in partnership with other community minded individuals has established the Community Access Program (RACNET.ON.CA) with financial support from Industry Canada. Our plan consisted of three phases:
- With financial and volunteer assistance from the Club, we introduced public access internet sites in our community. (RACNET)
- We built and maintain a mobile teaching / hands-on computer system for demonstrations in the community. This will allow groups to have the internet brought to them.
- Provide and promote training sessions at each (CAP) site to encourage all to experience the INTERNET.
Now that this project is well underway (began 1997) the success of these projects has been measured by the public's acceptance and utilization of the services. Community support has become evident. We have received financial and volunteer support from many unexpected sectors of the community. We appreciate Industry Canada for their initiative in funding the Community Access Program. We also wish to thank Phil Sexton, and IGS (Renfrew County) for their generous and continued support of the Renfrew Computer Club and our RACNET and CAP programs.
We appreciate and need your support
The revenue from membership in the RENFREW COMPUTER CLUB allows us to continue our service to the community. By joining the club you will help us to help you.
